The Department of Computer Science welcomes both new and experienced graduate students pursuing Master of Science in Engineering (M.S.E.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees. These programs offer adaptable structures to accommodate personalized study and research plans.
The Ph.D. program follows Graduate School guidelines and operates exclusively as a full-time commitment. Prospective students should examine both this website and the Graduate School Catalog. Designed for research-focused doctoral training, the program prepares students for academic and research careers. Non-native English speakers without a U.S. degree must complete the University's English Language Program within their first year. New students undergo language testing upon arrival and may need additional English coursework. Failure to meet this requirement within the first year results in dismissal. First-year students receive an academic advisor who may or may not serve as their eventual research advisor. Students must identify a research advisor by completing faculty consultations during their initial year.
Graduate education emphasizes teaching experience, requiring all Ph.D. candidates to contribute two terms of instructional support.
To be eligible for admission to the Graduate School applicants must, before they are enrolled, hold a bachelor’s degree or its foreign equivalent from an accredited college or university. (Foreign equivalents may in some cases have a normal program length that is shorter or longer than four years. No degree that has a normal program length shorter than three years will be considered equivalent to a bachelor's degree.)
GRE: General Test required; Additional Departmental Requirements: Applicants are required to select a subplan when applying.
Admitted students who score below an 8.0 on the speaking subsection of the IELTS will be required to take an English placement test at Princeton.
Masters applicants who are required to take the TOEFL must score a minimum of 28 on the spoken part of the TOEFL in order to be considered for the program.
Application Deadline: December 15.
