Our program connects design and business management disciplines, delivering executive education that's more specialized than an MBA for leaders overseeing design firms or creative teams. The Design Management curriculum builds strategic management capabilities across five key areas: operations, finance, marketing, organizational leadership, and innovation management. The coursework emphasizes practical relevance through hands-on learning, equipping participants with comprehensive insights into design's role in driving strategic advantage, sustainability, and social innovation.
Held at Pratt's Manhattan campus on West 14th Street, classes convene biweekly for intensive two-day sessions. The program also includes immersive week-long sessions at the start and midpoint, featuring condensed courses with behavioral simulations and negotiation workshops. These intensive periods foster strong peer connections that executive students often find particularly beneficial. Structured across five consecutive semesters (fall, spring, summer, fall, spring), the program divides each semester into two terms, with participants taking two courses per term (except during the final two semesters). Following the prescribed curriculum sequence, students must complete 42 credits to earn the accredited Master of Professional Studies (MPS) in Design Management degree.
Design Management program applicants should ideally have an undergraduate degree in one of the design disciplines and at least one year of professional experience before entering the program. Qualified applicants without design degrees will also be considered.
TOEFL score of 82 (internet and home test), TOEFL ITP Plus for China of 553, IELTS of 6.5, Duolingo of 105, or a PTE of 53 is required.
