Pratt serves as the hub for undergraduate creative writing students. Explore fiction, poetry, and nonfiction while experimenting with diverse formats like playwriting, screenwriting, graphic novels, fabric books, children's/YA literature, podcasting, and hybrid works. Our BFA in Writing cultivates skilled, independent creative writers. Using a studio-based model emphasizing inquiry, creative research, and self-reflection, you'll broaden your artistic scope, examine literary traditions' cultural roots, master your craft, and integrate knowledge from Pratt's other disciplines. We prioritize your creative growth while providing career readiness and community involvement to help you adapt to evolving literary fields. With thoughtful guidance, we curate your Pratt experience and connect you with campus resources—ensuring you feel empowered in your writing journey, even during solitary creative moments. Our close-knit writing community celebrates diverse voices and methodologies, both in writing practice and beyond. Twice weekly, you'll join peers for immersive studio sessions featuring critiques, creative exercises, and collaborative discussions. Specialized electives span screenwriting, dystopian fiction, eco-writing, psychoanalytic approaches, and feminist theory. First-year foundations cover critical analysis, global literature, writing fundamentals, and community-based learning.
