The Center for Experimental Structures stands out among architecture and design schools across the U.S. Students engage in form exploration through multiple academic and professional pathways. Operating under the Center for Experimental Structures (CES), the Morphology Concentration builds upon a rich tradition of form investigation, emphasizing the connections between spatial configurations (geometry, topology), structural behavior (morphological forces), and temporal transformations (dynamic systems) facilitated by digital tools, manufacturing techniques, building processes, and innovative technologies. Various courses under this framework examine these interconnected themes. Following D'Arcy Thompson's groundbreaking research a hundred years ago, formative principles have become fundamental to interpreting both natural and artificial systems, whether tangible or abstract. This conceptual framework has influenced numerous disciplines and continues to shape the educational and investigative work conducted at Pratt Institute's School of Architecture through CES.
