The Department of Psychology and Counseling provides a Master of Science program focused on Psychology. Students can choose between two specialization tracks: General or Clinical. The Clinical track prepares graduates for master's-level psychology or counseling licensure, enabling them to offer therapeutic services to clients with mental health conditions. Upon degree completion, fulfilling supervised practice hours, and passing the professional psychology examination, graduates qualify for Kansas' Licensed Clinical Psychotherapist credential. This curriculum features a 750-hour combined practicum and internship component. While the program satisfies educational prerequisites for Licensed Professional Counselor certification in many states (including Missouri), specific licensure regulations differ across jurisdictions. Becoming a licensed professional counselor typically requires additional supervised experience and passing a national exam, with variations by state.
