The Elementary Education Unified program at Pittsburg State University equips future educators to teach both general and special education for kindergarten through sixth grade. Students gain practical classroom experience alongside distinguished elementary and special education instructors. Faculty members guide aspiring teachers in channeling their enthusiasm into impactful classroom practices, shaping educators who leave lasting impressions. During the initial two years, Elementary Education Unified (K-6) majors primarily focus on Pitt State Pathway requirements. The final two years involve advanced academic studies combined with professional training and practical applications. The program reaches its peak in the senior year with an internship and professional semester, featuring yearlong student teaching at off-campus locations. Participants complete more than 1,000 hours of hands-on field experiences throughout their studies.
