This professional degree equips students with core competencies needed to launch careers or pursue advanced studies in visual storytelling arts. All art students complete foundational courses across diverse mediums, along with art history classes and specialized upper-level coursework in their chosen focus. Studio art students also complete professional development courses covering business fundamentals for working artists and building creative careers.

Housed in Pittsburg State's historic Porter Hall, originally constructed in 1927 as the campus library, the Art Department offers expansive facilities for artistic exploration. The three-story complex features specialized studios, exhibition spaces, and classrooms supporting studies in ceramics, printmaking, jewelry design, textiles, sculpture, drawing, painting, photography, art history, and art education. The building's main floor showcases two rotating exhibition spaces - the Harry Krug and University Galleries - presenting works by established artists worldwide. Community-focused art projects are displayed in the Second Floor Gallery. Visiting artists featured in these spaces often conduct lectures or workshops, offering students valuable professional perspectives and engagement with the contemporary art scene.
