The Department of English and Modern Languages provides undergraduate and graduate degree options. Students can pursue Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degrees in either English or Modern Languages, along with a Master's program in English. The department also features six minor options: English, English Teaching, Creative Writing, French, Professional Writing, and Spanish. At Pittsburg State University, English majors can choose among five specialized tracks: Creative Writing, English Education, English Language and Teaching, Professional Writing, or Literature and Culture.
High School Academic Records: A minimum GPA (grade point average) of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent) in high school and have earned a high school diploma
International College/University Academic Records: A minimum GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent) in an accredited international post-secondary institution (college/university)
U.S. College/University Academic Records: A minimum GPA of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent) if transferring from an accredited U.S. college with at least 24 credit hours (approximately one year of college work)
English Language Requirement
TOEFL score of at least 68 (iBT) is required. In addition, a minimum score of 15 is required in each section (internet).
IELTS: Overall score of 6.0 with a minimum score of 5.0. in each band of the IELTS is required. If a lower score is earned in any of the five band scores, the overall score cannot be accepted.
PTE: Overall score of 47.
Application Deadline: Fall Semester – June 1st, Spring Semester – October 15th.
