The Associate in Arts in Journalism for Transfer Degree (AA-T JOURN) prepares students to transfer smoothly with junior standing and priority admission to a CSU campus for Journalism or related bachelor's degree programs. Requirements include: Completing 60 semester or 90 quarter transferable units to CSU, encompassing both: (A) The IGETC or CSU General Education Breadth Requirements, and (B) At least 18 semester or 27 quarter units in a district-approved major or emphasis area. Students must maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA and earn a C or higher in all major courses, with no more than 60 semester units needed. The AA-T JOURN also facilitates transfer to UC or other bachelor's degree programs. Students should meet with a counselor to confirm transfer requirements.
Program Learning Outcomes
Compile a portfolio showcasing journalistic skills through photographs, writings, journals, or digital media. Craft news articles, features, and opinion pieces using newspaper style. Incorporate media law, fact verification, and ethical standards into journalistic work.
