The Chicana/o and Latina/o Studies program takes an interdisciplinary and comparative approach to education. Its curriculum integrates perspectives from social and behavioral sciences alongside humanities and arts disciplines. Students can explore diverse courses focusing on Latin America and the Chicana/o and Latina/o communities in the U.S. The program's mission is to cultivate critical awareness about the social, political, cultural, and economic factors influencing Latina/o communities throughout history and in contemporary society. Grounded in social justice principles and the self-determination of marginalized groups, our studies highlight the knowledge systems and critical perspectives developed by racially and sexually oppressed communities. We particularly focus on analyzing the interconnected nature of racialized sexuality, gender, and class within broader socio-historical contexts.
