The Penn State Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering provides several graduate degree pathways: Master of Engineering (M.Eng.), Master of Science (M.S.), and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.). Below you'll find brief overviews of each program. The M.Eng. is designed as a career-focused degree featuring a comprehensive, integrated curriculum for advanced professional development. Candidates must fulfill 31 graduate-level credits (with at least 18 at the 500-level) and meet additional academic criteria specified in the Graduate Handbook. Although full-time students may finish in two semesters, part-time enrollment extends the completion timeline.
Applicants should possess a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited institution. Students in engineering, physical sciences, or mathematics with a 3.00 grade-point average (on a 4.00 scale) may be considered for admission. Exceptions to the minimum 3.00 grade-point average may be made for students with special backgrounds, abilities, and interests.
