Penn State's Philosophy Graduate Program is exceptionally selective. The Department ensures complete financial support for all admitted students pursuing their PhD. Admission decisions, along with assistantship and fellowship allocations, are determined through meticulous assessment of each applicant's qualifications. These qualifications must demonstrate outstanding academic performance in prior studies and the potential to successfully complete Penn State's graduate curriculum. While most applicants hold an undergraduate philosophy degree, this isn't mandatory - exceptional candidates with minimal philosophy coursework may be admitted if they exhibit strong intellectual capabilities overall.
Students with a 3.00 junior/senior grade-point average (on a 4.00 scale) and with appropriate course backgrounds will be considered for admission.
