Loyola's doctoral program stands as a leading center for advanced studies in continental philosophy, social-political philosophy, and philosophical history. The program is particularly distinguished for its expertise in feminist theory, ethics and value studies, critical race philosophy, and bioethics. Emphasizing philosophical diversity, our faculty draw from multiple traditions and methodologies, ensuring students encounter both analytic and continental perspectives throughout their studies. Program Features
Exceptional Guidance and Career Preparation: Beyond personalized mentoring, our faculty jointly create and implement initiatives to foster student achievement. These include a first-year orientation seminar for graduate studies and ongoing professional workshops to help students present and publish their scholarly work.
Research Skill Development: Doctoral candidates can pursue research assistantships that enhance academic and professional capabilities, such as working as journal editorial assistants, leading our MAP chapter, or collaborating on faculty-led projects. Students are also urged to join at least one research group to broaden their academic connections and showcase their work.
Teaching Expertise: Loyola equips you to become a versatile educator capable of designing and teaching diverse philosophy courses while responding to evolving student needs. Our teaching assistantships focus on instructional growth, offering pedagogy workshops, individual mentoring, and chances to lead courses as primary instructors.
