The Penn State Civil and Environmental Engineering Department provides several advanced degree choices: Master of Engineering (M.Eng.), Master of Science (M.S.), and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.). The Environmental Engineering program concentrates on enhancing environmental conditions through innovative design approaches, covering areas like surface water, groundwater, wastewater, soil, and air purification. It also addresses wetland and watershed management, solid and hazardous waste handling, renewable energy generation, and sustainable product development. Penn State's Environmental Engineering (Env E) program excels particularly in biological energy processes, hazardous substance bioremediation, contaminant elimination techniques, traditional water treatment systems, eco-friendly product creation, and environmental regulations.
Applicants should possess a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited institution. Students in engineering, physical sciences, or mathematics with a 3.00 grade-point average (on a 4.00 scale) may be considered for admission. Exceptions to the minimum 3.00 grade-point average may be made for students with special backgrounds, abilities, and interests.
English Proficiency: TOEFL Internet-based test (iBT) - a total score of 80 with a 19 on the speaking section for the internet-based test (iBT); TOEFL Paper-based test - the minimum acceptable score is 550; IELTS - The minimum acceptable composite score for the IELTS Academic Test is 6.5.
