Our studies concentrate on wind turbine aerodynamics and rotorcraft aeromechanics. Present work encompasses modeling wind farm wakes, turbine icing effects, wind turbine design and evaluation, rotor hub flow dynamics, and active rotor control. Our team conducts detailed Large Eddy Simulations of wind turbine arrays within neutral and moderately-convective atmospheric boundary layers. These simulations utilize computational grids exceeding 30 million points and typically operate across 512 CPUs. The goal is to measure turbulence characteristics in both atmospheric boundary layers and turbine wakes. A key focus involves analyzing unsteady blade reactions to atmospheric turbulent structures and their impact on blade fatigue.
