This program offers a robust grounding in both chemical theory and practical applications. With a focus on mathematics and physics as fundamental pillars for comprehending chemistry, it also incorporates English courses and electives to expand students' liberal arts education and connect their specialization to diverse disciplines.
Chemistry explores the nature of substances and their changes. Scientists investigate atomic interactions that form compounds, examine how molecular structures dictate material characteristics, and develop chemical processes to engineer innovative materials and energy solutions. Chemical research bridges multiple domains such as biology, physics, environmental studies, earth sciences, nanotechnology, healthcare, and beyond. Penn State's Chemistry Department faculty lead pioneering initiatives addressing biological mysteries, developing medical/energy materials, employing computational modeling for process simulation, and other advanced pursuits.
