The Chemistry Department provides both Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Arts degree programs in Chemistry. The B.S. program features two specialized tracks: 1) a Chemistry option meeting the professional standards set by the American Chemical Society, and 2) a Biochemistry option (also ACS-approved) tailored for careers in biochemistry and allied fields. These programs equip students for research roles in industrial and government settings, while also serving as excellent preparation for graduate studies. The B.A. program offers broader academic flexibility with less chemistry specialization, making it ideal for students pursuing Secondary Teaching Credentials.
Our department prioritizes experiential education. Students benefit from cutting-edge instructional resources, including a computational chemistry lab and advanced instrumentation like GC-MS, AA, FT-IR, HPLC, and modern multi-nuclear FT-NMR equipment.
Career readiness plays a crucial role in employment prospects. Students who actively explore career options, enhance their qualifications through targeted education and practical experience, and develop effective job search strategies significantly improve their marketability. Focusing on high-demand specialty areas and aligning coursework with employer expectations gives chemistry graduates a competitive edge. Developing interdisciplinary skills through supplementary coursework further enhances employment opportunities in the chemistry field.
