The student's Master of Science curriculum must be structured to achieve a level of expertise in the primary discipline that substantially exceeds typical undergraduate training, while incorporating foundational and supplementary knowledge expected for professional practice in that field. To maintain rigorous standards, the major must contain a minimum of 15 credits from 500-level, non-blanket CCE courses. (Note: Blanket courses include those numbered 501, 505, 506, and 507.)

Thesis and Non-Thesis Paths: Certain CCE programs offer the Master's thesis as an optional component, pending approval from the student's primary advisor. Students opting out of the thesis must complete a non-thesis technical report instead. The thesis track typically requires 6-12 credits of CE 503 (Thesis), while the non-thesis alternative generally involves 3-6 credits of CE 506 (Project) culminating in a technical report.

Oregon State University's Water Resources Engineering graduate program focuses on interdisciplinary study and research addressing contemporary challenges in environmental hydraulics (including flood risks and geyser flows), hydroinformatics, water systems analysis, watershed science, flood control, sustainable stormwater solutions, water conservation, and climate adaptation strategies. The curriculum cultivates robust skills in fundamental engineering principles, technical evaluation, project planning, system design, and resource management. Our program encourages students to explore research questions that transcend conventional water engineering boundaries, equipping them for leadership roles in academic, corporate, and government settings.

The Civil and Construction Engineering Department provides three advanced degree options: Master of Engineering (MEng), Master of Science in Civil Engineering (M.S.), and Doctor of Philosophy in Civil Engineering (Ph.D.). Students may concentrate their studies across seven civil engineering specializations, utilizing dedicated research facilities. Specific requirements vary by specialization and degree program. The School of Civil and Construction Engineering at Oregon State University is committed to delivering an advanced, contemporary education that prepares graduates for ethical engineering and construction leadership roles across private industry, consulting firms, and government agencies.
