The Literature and Culture specialization prepares a carefully chosen cohort of MA candidates to analyze, engage with, and contribute to modern academic discourse in English, American, and global Anglophone literary studies. Our curriculum features graduate-level classes exploring varied topics from conventional examinations of historical literary movements (Medieval, Renaissance, Romantic, Victorian, etc.) to cross-disciplinary studies of visual culture, marginalized artistic expressions, digital scholarship, religious texts, and posthumanist theories. Faculty members in the School of Writing, Literature, and Film regularly publish in leading journals and academic presses specializing in literary criticism, cultural analysis, visual studies, and ethnic research, giving students direct exposure to current scholarly conversations. Additional academic enrichment comes through thesis guidance, our Critical Questions Lecture Series, Humanities Center initiatives, conference travel grants, and the yearly MA Symposium. We actively promote cross-disciplinary collaboration with other graduate programs such as Rhetoric and Writing, Creative Writing, Environmental Humanities, Gender Studies, Ethnic Studies, and Latino/a Studies - reflecting our program's strong commitment to diversity in all aspects of graduate education.
