The Crop and Soil Science department provides advanced degree programs, allowing students to specialize in diverse areas of soil science for both M.S. and Ph.D. qualifications. Students select complementary courses from fundamental sciences and related disciplines. Conducting independent research forms a crucial component of both master's and doctoral programs.
Every degree plan is customized through collaboration between the student and their advisory committee. Candidates select a primary advisor along with faculty representatives from their chosen specialization. Research expertise within the soil science faculty encompasses soil productivity, nutrient optimization, water resource protection, erosion control, soil classification, landscape-soil relationships, soil formation processes, biogeochemical cycles, geochemical analysis, ecosystem interactions, organic-mineral dynamics, cultivated land systems, and woodland soils.
