The Journalism Department at Orange Coast College provides a complete curriculum, covering introductory journalism courses to advanced multimedia production. Our goal is to combine theoretical knowledge with hands-on experience, teaching students how to report and write for diverse media outlets while emphasizing the importance of a free press in the U.S. We support students in earning an AA or AS degree, transferring to four-year universities, and preparing for future career prospects. The department runs the weekly Coast Report newspaper, maintains the website www.coastreportonline.com, and produces various multimedia content. Courses are available to all students, regardless of their major.
The Journalism AA-T degree closely supports the department's mission by facilitating degree completion and university transfer. It offers students a wide-ranging view of potential four-year program choices while equipping them for successful transitions. Graduates will also gain the skills and confidence to contribute to campus publications or digital platforms with journalistic expertise.
