This degree provides students with a foundation in the theory, technique, and the aesthetics of the art of World Dance. This is fulfilled through a comprehensive program of study in a variety of techniques with an emphasis on Mid-Eastern, Flamenco, Latin, Polynesian, Mexican Folkloric, or African (Nigeria/Ghana) dance. Students will also study choreography, music, and contemporary dance forms. Students will demonstrate proficiency through accurate technical execution, performance skills, research papers, essays, and choreographic works. Program assessment is measured by public performances, program completion, transferability, and periodic program review. Students qualify to pursue a variety of dance-related careers and advanced degree options. Students are advised to meet with an Orange Coast College Counselor to review course selections and sequences to ensure that completion of this program will meet a student's transfer and career goals.

  1. Develop an understanding and appreciation of World Dance forms and their relevance to the multicultural world we live in.
  2. Acquire the dance technical, composition, and performance skills necessary to transfer to a university program or similar advanced dance study program.
  3. Implement critical thinking skills and kinesthetic awareness in their observation, analysis, and interpretation of World Dance performances on stage or in media.

Qualification Requirements

The online application system will display the specific documents required based on each applicant’s situation. However, the following items are typically required for most international applicants:

  • Application Fee 
    A non-refundable fee of $55 is required at the time of application submission.
  • Sponsorship Form 
    Must be signed and dated by both the student and the financial sponsor. Physical signatures (not digital or typed signatures) are required, and the form must be signed within the last 5 months.
  • Financial Documents (one of the following may be required):
    • Bank Statement 
      A recent bank statement (dated within 5 months of the application submission) showing a minimum balance of $29,327 USD or the equivalent in local currency. The statement must be from a checking or savings account belonging to the financial sponsor.
    • If you have a dependent(s), you must provide proof of funds of at least an additional $6,000 USD per dependent.
    • Financial Guarantee Letter (if applicable) 
      An official letter may be submitted in place of a bank statement if the applicant is sponsored by their home country’s government.
    • If the financial sponsor is a corporate entity, we require a letter that meets these requirements:
      • Must be on company letterhead
      • Must be signed by a legal representative or owner
      • Must state the name of the student
      • Must state that the company will meet the costs of the student's expenses while at Orange Coast College
  • Copies of Unofficial Transcripts 
    From all educational institutions previously attended (transcripts need not be official)
  • Proof of English Proficiency: 
    Acceptable documentation includes test scores such as TOEFL, IELTS, Duolingo, or other recognized assessments.
  • Copy of Passport Biographical Page 
    A clear scan of the page showing the applicant’s name, photo, and passport details.
  • Copies of All Previous Forms I-20 (if applicable) 
    Required if the applicant has previously studied in the U.S. as an F-1 international student.
  • Copy of F-1 Visa (if applicable) 
    Include a copy if the applicant currently holds or has previously held an F-1 visa for another institution. If the applicant previously did a change of status (COS), please upload proof of your successful COS application to F-1 visa status.
  • Copy of Form I-94 (if applicable)

  • Dependent Spouse: Copy of Passport Biographical Page + Marriage Certificate with English Translation (if applicable)
  • Dependent Child: Copy of Passport Biographical Page + Birth Certificate with English Translation (if applicable)
