A physics degree with a research focus is mainly intended for students aiming to pursue graduate studies in physics or related disciplines, or for those seeking immediate professional employment in technical fields demanding rigorous physics training. Chosen by the University for national recognition, the program benefits from Old Dominion's close proximity (just 30 minutes away) to both the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (TJNAF), the leading global center for nuclear physics research, and NASA's Langley Research Center. Over the last two decades, the Physics department has experienced remarkable growth, doubling its faculty size while adding new teaching spaces, lab facilities, and upgraded computer-equipped undergraduate laboratories. The newly constructed Physical Sciences Research Building further expands research possibilities for both graduate and undergraduate students.
