The Department of Political Science and Geography provides undergraduate programs in political science, geography, and international studies.
For political science, students can pursue either a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree. The curriculum focuses on building fundamental knowledge and analytical abilities, with options to concentrate in two key areas: American politics and public law, or international relations and comparative politics. Students also have the choice to specialize in International Affairs and Global Politics or Analytics, Institutions, and Public Policy.
In geography, the Department offers both Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees. The program provides comprehensive geographical education with a focus on human-environment interactions, allowing specialization in urban planning and emergency/hazards management, environment and resources, or geographic information systems (BS only). Additionally, undergraduate and graduate certificates are available in cyber risk management, geographic information science, hazards and emergency management, spatial analysis of coastal environments, and urban studies and planning.
High-achieving students can participate in the linked BA/BS geography and MA in humanities program, applying up to 12 graduate credits toward both degrees. A minimum of 150 total credit hours is required (120 for the undergraduate degree and 30 for the graduate degree). Further details about the linked program can be found in the Humanities section of this Catalog.
