The Cyber Operations major is an interdisciplinary field covering all aspects of cyberspace and related activities, including both technical and non-technical dimensions (such as ethical, legal, and human-centered considerations). It serves as a companion field to Cybersecurity, with a strong focus on technologies and methods relevant across all operational and system levels. The curriculum blends theoretical foundations, practical applications, and hands-on laboratory experiences based on real-world situations. Students develop expertise in system infiltration, exploitation, defense strategies, threat mitigation, and recovery processes.

This program stands out as one of only two in Virginia—and the sole truly interdisciplinary option—recognized by the National Security Agency as a Center of Academic Excellence.
Graduates will acquire specialized skills highly valued by intelligence agencies, military units, and law enforcement entities authorized to conduct such operations.
Old Dominion University's Cyber Operations program is deeply rooted in computer science, computer engineering, and electrical engineering principles, offering abundant hands-on learning through laboratory work and practical exercises.
