The Art Education program provides training in both theoretical and hands-on approaches to teaching art across K-12 environments. The BFA in Art Education combines studio art practice, art history studies, and professional teaching coursework. Through field experiences in schools, museums, and cultural organizations, students develop essential skills for becoming effective art teachers. The curriculum examines historical and contemporary challenges in art education, including how political, social, and cultural perspectives shape teaching methods and policies. Old Dominion University's B.F.A. in Art Education holds accreditation from both the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and the Virginia Department of Education.
