The Music Education Division at Hartt provides one of the country's most extensive music education programs. Blending intensive conservatory training with a strong grounding in music pedagogy, this program equips students for careers teaching music in elementary and secondary schools. Alongside general music instruction, students specializing in music education gain expertise in choral music, wind and string instrument teaching methods, as well as Kod√°ly, Suzuki, and Orff approaches. Undergraduate students follow a four-year program with either instrumental or vocal focus. Those interested in jazz (saxophone, trumpet, or trombone) can opt for a dual degree in Music Education and Jazz Studies (a five-year program). Applicants for this dual degree must complete both jazz and classical auditions, as they'll receive private lessons in both disciplines.

Hartt's Music Education Division maintains dynamic partnerships with numerous local school programs. At the University of Hartford Magnet School, Hartt students gain hands-on experience teaching younger elementary students in classroom environments and mentoring elementary musicians through the Hartt Band Project and Hartt String Project. Through collaboration with Simsbury Public Schools, Hartt students instruct upper elementary general music classes along with high school band and choir. These distinctive partnerships offer valuable practical experience before student teaching begins. Hartt's Music Education graduates are highly recruited for teaching positions in public schools across New England and nationwide.
