Ohio State University's two-year Master of Arts in Art History stands apart from conventional programs by emphasizing cross-cultural relationships, global perspectives, and transnational approaches. Supported by six tenured or tenure-track professors, the curriculum spans extensive historical periods and regions—covering European, American, Native American, East Asian, Latin American, and Islamic art from medieval times to the present. Alongside the MA in Art History, students can pursue a Museum and Curatorial Studies certificate.

OSU's art history professors are engaged in cutting-edge scholarship, with all eight full-time faculty holding doctorates from prestigious institutions like Stanford, Northwestern, University of Chicago, University of Wisconsin-Madison, and Rutgers.
Faculty research explores diverse eras and locations, from medieval Europe to contemporary China. These investigations employ multiple theoretical frameworks, including feminist and queer studies, colonial and transnational visual cultures, race and ethnicity histories, plus material culture and phenomenological approaches.
