The Department of History offers degree programs across various research areas for both Master's and Doctoral candidates. Our graduate studies excel particularly in Native American studies, public history, religious history, racial and ethnic studies, gender studies, and military-social history.
Program Structure
To earn a Ph.D. in History, students need to complete 60 graduate credit hours post-Master's degree, distributed across three specialized areas (primary, secondary, and tertiary fields).
Mandatory coursework includes:
Twelve credit hours in the primary field (chosen with faculty guidance)
Two secondary fields (six credits per field)
Historical methodology
College-level history instruction
