The fields of microbiology, cell biology, and molecular genetics are built upon experiments carried out in research labs, clinical settings, and field investigations. Scientists in microbiology explore microbial interactions with their surroundings to utilize their potential for biotechnological applications. Meanwhile, cell and molecular biologists examine intracellular mechanisms through genetic and biochemical approaches.
At OSU, students majoring in microbiology/cell and molecular biology examine how microbes and other cell types interact with their environments and the internal cellular mechanisms at work. Gaining insights into microbial and cellular behavior can drive biotechnological innovations and novel therapeutic approaches. In this program, you'll conduct research with diverse microorganisms and animal cells involved in immune system functions. The Microbiology/Cell and Molecular Genetics Department collaborates with multiple academic initiatives across campus, offering preparatory support, access to resources, and personalized guidance for your educational growth.
