The American Studies program at Oklahoma State University provides a comprehensive exploration of U.S. culture and society through interdisciplinary approaches. Learners passionate about identity, societal influence, and civic engagement will find a collaborative atmosphere in our intimate, conversation-driven courses. Our flexible program enables students to customize their academic journey by selecting from diverse course offerings before undertaking the two mandatory components: American Studies Theories and Methods, and the American Studies Senior Seminar.
Program Features
Classes such as Digital Humanities Fundamentals, Indigenous Arts and Traditions, and Tulsa's Community Cultures immerse participants in regional settings to engage with creatives, cultural centers, and social initiatives.
Enrollees can choose experiential learning opportunities through internships focused on the humanities or social science aspects of American culture, governance, and community.
The curriculum also serves as excellent groundwork for graduate studies in various disciplines including literary analysis, historical research, social services, and legal studies.
