The Theatre Department is a dynamic and engaged community dedicated to educating the next generation of artist-scholars. Alongside our acclaimed performance seasons, we frequently host theater professionals and academics to collaborate on performance creation and theory. We believe fostering original work is essential to theater's vitality, offering students chances to develop new performances while honoring our heritage through classic, modern, and contemporary productions. The Wexner Center for the Arts enhances our program by presenting groundbreaking international performers. Students gain professional connections through internships and global experiences.
Our Master of Arts program delivers comprehensive theater studies education. After completing the research methods requirement, students explore diverse courses in theater history, criticism, theory, and dramatic literature. Optional courses in acting, directing, and design are available, along with production participation. The MA degree, completed with a written thesis, provides broad theater knowledge suitable for: secondary education, doctoral program preparation, or careers in theater companies, entertainment media, government arts initiatives, and cultural organizations. A baccalaureate or professional degree (or equivalent foreign credential) from an accredited college or university, earned by the expected date of entry into your graduate program. A minimum of a 3.0 cumulative GPA (on a 4.0 scale) in all prior undergraduate and graduate work.
