The school maintains an ideal size - substantial enough to leverage the boundless opportunities of a top-tier university, yet intimate enough to address each student's unique requirements. Established in the 19th century, the School of Music now provides students, faculty, and visiting artists with a dynamic space for creating outstanding music, fostering artistic development, investigating teaching approaches, and pioneering research. Organized into specialized study areas, each led by dedicated coordinators, the School boasts faculty members who are acclaimed performers, composers, researchers, and educators worldwide, alongside expert full-time and adjunct instructors. These faculty members mentor about 300 undergraduate and 150 graduate music majors, plus numerous non-majors pursuing music minors, coursework, or participation in diverse performance groups.
