The PhD program prepares students to develop comprehensive expertise in Geography while specializing in a specific subdiscipline. Candidates are encouraged to produce original research firmly rooted in sound empirical and theoretical frameworks. Geography graduate studies have been available at The Ohio State University since the 1920s. Today, the department provides MA and PhD programs, both emphasizing essential competencies for modern geographers: theoretical knowledge and methodological proficiency. The department has built its reputation on strong theoretical and empirical foundations across four key research areas: Environment and Society, Atmospheric and Climatic Studies, GIS and Spatial Analysis, and Urban, Regional and Global Studies.
A baccalaureate or professional degree (or equivalent foreign credential) from an accredited college or university, earned by the expected date of entry into your graduate program. A minimum of a 3.0 cumulative GPA (on a 4.0 scale) in all prior undergraduate and graduate work.
