The Master of Arts in Teaching for Secondary Education (MATSE) is tailored for bachelor's degree holders pursuing a teaching career in middle or high schools. This program blends teacher preparation courses with three hands-on field experiences in area schools, leading to a mentored student teaching placement. With working professionals in mind, classes are held in-person two evenings weekly, supplemented by online coursework. Students progress through the curriculum as a cohort, starting each winter semester. The full-time student teaching experience takes place at a nearby school. Upon finishing this internship, participants qualify for Michigan's standard teaching certification (covering grades 5-9 and 7-12). To earn the Master of Arts in Teaching degree, candidates take one final course after their student teaching concludes successfully.
