The College of Arts and Sciences provides a doctoral program in Applied and Computational Physics through its Physics Department. Focusing on experimental materials research and computational modeling, this program equips graduates for careers in academia and industry within materials science - one of physics' most expansive fields. The curriculum trains students in condensed matter physics research, with particular emphasis on materials science due to its technological significance. Students can choose between two tracks: applied physics (engineering applications) or computational physics (theoretical foundations). Doctoral candidates have opportunities to work with Oakland University faculty engaged in applied and computational physics research. Beyond standard graduate assistantships, department faculty may offer additional support to qualified students.
