The Ph.D. program fosters interdisciplinary exploration, enabling students to conduct research that crosses academic departments, disciplines, and geographical/historical divides. Our faculty's expertise covers wide-ranging eras, locations, and expressions of Latin American, Iberian, and U.S. Latino cultures. Beyond Spanish and Portuguese department specialties, students can collaborate with scholars from Anthropology, History, Performance Studies, and various interdisciplinary programs including Comparative Literature, Latin American/Caribbean Studies, Latino Studies, African Studies, Theatre and Drama, and Screen Cultures. The Spanish and Portuguese Graduate Program serves as a cornerstone for the Latin American and Caribbean Studies Interdisciplinary Graduate Program (LACSIGP).
