The mechanical engineering PhD program centers on pioneering new knowledge and technological innovations. Professors and graduate students collaborate closely in this pursuit, with faculty serving as guides for their doctoral candidates. PhD candidates must undertake an intensive curriculum while also making original contributions that push the boundaries of their specialized research areas.
This doctoral program mandates six quarters of advanced coursework beyond undergraduate studies, followed by at least six research quarters culminating in a dissertation. While students admitted directly after their bachelor's degree aren't obligated to earn a master's, they may opt to pursue one. Typically, completing the PhD program requires four to five years of dedicated study.
Admitted students must hold a U.S. bachelor’s degree or a comparable non-U.S. degree from a regionally accredited institution.
TOEFL (minimum of 90 if required) or IELTS (minimum of 7.0 if required).
