The curriculum consists of 25.7 units, with up to 3 units available for independent research, along with a recurring seminar series. Completing the ISP can result in a three-year Bachelor of Arts degree, provided the student finishes 38.7 or more quarter-courses and meets all other college requirements by the end of the third year.
Although structured as a three-year program, students frequently extend it to four years, especially when pursuing a double major with the ISP and another discipline like biological sciences, chemistry, computer science, environmental sciences, earth and planetary sciences, materials science, mathematics, physics, psychology, or engineering. Double majors in fields such as economics are also an option.
