Theatre performance students immerse themselves in a diverse, holistic study of acting. The curriculum covers improvisational skills, script interpretation, and acting methods spanning various historical and physical traditions - from Greek drama to Elizabethan theater, Restoration comedy, and modern 20th century movements. The program emphasizes developing vocal control and physical expressiveness. Practical experience comes through classroom exercises, workshop sessions, professional internships, and stage performances guided by industry veterans. Theatre Northwest, the department's production arm, stages around twelve annual performances. This includes four major mainstage shows (including a freshman showcase), an original children's touring production, and up to eight smaller studio works. Participants enjoy frequent opportunities to act, design, and direct from their first year. Notable recent performances have featured Legally Blonde: The Musical, A Midsummer Night's Dream, The Secret Garden, Alice in Wonderland, and Reckless.
