The Creative Writing Certificate is a graduate-level, non-degree program consisting of 18 credit hours of focused coursework. Through intensive workshops, students examine both theoretical and practical aspects of contemporary creative writing. This program suits individuals with undergraduate creative writing experience or significant professional/independent writing background.
Certificate credits may potentially count toward the Master of Arts in English (MAE) program, subject to the graduate program director's approval. When applying certificate credits to the MAE, they must be less than six years old at the time of MAE graduation. All certificate coursework, including transferred credits, must be finished within a six-year timeframe.
Students should consult the graduate catalog from their admission term to understand how credits may apply across multiple NKU certificate or degree programs. Applicants without substantial undergraduate creative writing coursework may need to provide a writing portfolio for evaluation.
