The Master of Science in mathematics program offers four distinct specialization tracks. Students will deepen their expertise in either applied mathematics, computational mathematics, mathematics education, or pure mathematics. The Department of Mathematical Sciences provides these four concentration areas within the M.S. program. Prospective students should have fulfilled coursework equivalent to the B.S. in mathematical sciences requirements at NIU for their chosen specialization, though exceptions may be made for exceptional candidates. Admission prerequisites include completing courses comparable to CSCI 230 and MATH 444. It's highly recommended that students complete MATH 423, MATH 430, and MATH 431 during their initial year if they haven't already taken equivalent courses.
