This certification program is tailored for educational administrators pursuing the Director of Special Education endorsement on their Professional Educator License (PEL). Eligible applicants must provide evidence of two complete years of full-time experience in special education instruction or professional service as a school social worker, psychologist, or speech-language pathologist while holding a valid PEL. A minimum GPA of 3.20 from the applicant's most recent degree is required. Those without a master's degree upon enrollment must complete one and pass the relevant content examination before being recommended for the endorsement. Application documents can be obtained from the Department of Special and Early Education. The outlined course sequence fulfills all Illinois State Board of Education requirements for the Director of Special Education certification.
