This certification program equips future educators with specialized coursework in literacy instruction tailored for middle school students. Participants will gain expertise in creating, evaluating, and incorporating literacy strategies throughout the middle school curriculum. The undergraduate certificate in middle school literacy is available to all Northern Illinois University students, whether pursuing a degree or not. Prospective candidates must obtain approval and guidance from the program coordinator. Individuals seeking the Middle School endorsement from the Illinois State Board of Education should consult with the coordinator for specific requirements. To successfully complete the program, students must maintain satisfactory academic progress, earn at least a C in all certificate courses, and finish all requirements within six years.
