This certificate offers students passionate about writing the chance to specialize in poetry, fiction, or creative nonfiction. Available to bachelor's degree candidates with sophomore status or above and a minimum 2.00 GPA, the program requires focusing on one genre. Participants must consult with creative writing coordinators to approve their study plan. The curriculum consists of four upper-level (300+) three-credit courses: introductory and advanced workshops in the selected genre (taken consecutively), a literature analysis course in that genre, and one course (non-workshop) in another genre. The sequential introductory and advanced workshops form the program's core foundation.
