This focus area aims to bridge theoretical and applied inquiries where justice and democracy intersect. Students choosing this concentration will examine democracy's essence, its philosophical foundations, institutional frameworks, behavioral patterns, and how legal systems interact with democratic principles and justice. Core to this program's curriculum is investigating if, and when, democratic systems foster equitable outcomes for their citizens. The justice and democracy concentration enables students to explore these concepts through multiple political science disciplines, examining the relationship between justice and democratic governance in constitutional law, U.S. government systems, and political philosophy. While using the American democratic experience - including its evolution, structures, civic participation, and ideological heritage - as a key reference point, the program maintains a broader comparative perspective.
