Our program provides a pathway to earning a Bachelor of Arts degree. English majors can select from three specialized tracks: The literature studies option explores the evolution of British, American, and global cultures and ideas across historical periods. This concentration opens doors to diverse career paths requiring strong analytical reading, insightful interpretation, critical thinking, and compelling communication skills. The secondary education track qualifies graduates to teach English language arts for grades 9-12. Those aspiring to teach middle school English (grades 5-8) should complete the middle school licensure requirements. Students from other disciplines can pursue English language arts licensure as an additional teaching endorsement. The writing studies track offers professional internship opportunities in writing and editing, available both on campus and with local organizations. These internships may provide academic credit and sometimes compensation. Additionally, we offer a creative writing certificate program suitable for English majors and students from other disciplines.
