Northeastern's Master of Design for Sustainable Urban Environments (MDes) integrates the complementary disciplines of environmental design, landscape architecture, and urban planning. This program provides in-depth academic exploration and research in creating urban spaces that thrive both ecologically and economically. The one-year MDes-SUEN track welcomes applicants with an accredited first-professional degree in landscape architecture, architecture, planning, or urban design, while the two-year option is available to all students. The MDES-SUEN program merges environmental design, urban planning, urban ecology, and landscape architecture. Through a blend of technical and design-oriented coursework, the MDES curriculum enables students to master landscape and urban design principles with emphasis on environmental sustainability and equitable communities - and the timing couldn't be more crucial.
