The Bachelor of Science in Chemistry program aims to equip students with comprehensive knowledge and expertise in core chemistry principles. Throughout their studies, learners cultivate both qualitative and quantitative analytical abilities alongside strong communication skills. This program's primary goal is to furnish students with rigorous scientific training and hands-on laboratory experience, preparing them for chemistry-focused careers or graduate studies across diverse fields. These include traditional chemical disciplines as well as interdisciplinary areas like biochemistry, materials science, forensic science, healthcare, education, and legal professions - all of which benefit from understanding chemistry's role in our world. The Chemistry and Chemical Biology Department delivers foundational and contemporary chemistry education, featuring an American Chemical Society-approved BS in Chemistry program. It also provides a joint BS in Biochemistry with the Biology Department and collaborates with Marine and Environmental Sciences to offer a combined BS in Environmental Geology and Chemistry. The chemistry major's central purpose remains delivering essential scientific knowledge and practical lab skills to prepare students for professional chemistry paths or advanced studies in conventional chemical fields, biochemistry, materials science, forensic science, healthcare, education, law, and other chemistry-dependent areas.
