This program is tailored for students pursuing an Associate of Fine Arts (AFA) degree with a focus on 2D disciplines like Painting, Drawing, and Printmaking. Finishing this AFA track aims to help students develop a robust 2D art portfolio while equipping them for advanced studies in visual arts, whether pursuing a Bachelor of Arts (BA) with Studio Art or Art History specialization, a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA), a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Visual Art, or entering the creative industry with a compelling portfolio.
North Seattle College offers specialized facilities for printmaking and drawing/painting, featuring four etching/relief presses (including three Takach models), screenprinting equipment, an exposure unit with washout booth, a risograph machine, a Vandercook letterpress, Mac workstations with Adobe Creative Cloud, a large-format printer, easels, and spacious work tables. Participants in this program hone technical abilities such as color theory, observational drawing and painting, oil painting techniques, various relief methods, drypoint intaglio, screenprinting, monotype, collagraph, and mixed-media printing. Additionally, students cultivate collaborative skills in 2D media, learning to thoughtfully critique and professionally document their artwork.
